hamburger buns
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, optional
- sesame seeds, optional
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the yeast, sugar, salt, milk, and water.
Add in the melted butter and 3 cups of the flour. On low speed, mix until all of the flour is incorporated. Slowly add in more flour, a little at a time until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased large mixing bowl. Cover with a tea towel and let rise in a warm draft free area until double in size, about 1 hour.
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll into balls. Shape each portion into a round disc, about 1/2” tall. Place the disc onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Let dough rise another 20 to 30 minutes while the oven is pre-heating.
If adding sesame seeds, whisk the egg. Brush the tops of the discs. This will give them a nice shiny brown finish. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Bake for 12 to 13 minutes, until lightly browned.
